Apple Butter
12 medium granny smith or other cooking apples, peeled, cored and cut into fourths
1 1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c apple juice
1 Tbs ground cinnamon
1 Tbs lemon juice
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
Combine into a 5-6 quart slow cooker (crock pot)
Cover and cook on low/medium heat for 8 - 10 hours until apples are very tender
Mash apples with potato masher (or puree in blender)
cook uncovered on low heat setting 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally until mixture is very thick
cool 2 hours
put into containers and keep refrigerated up to 3 weeks, or freeze.
